Synodontis are extremely agressive they can easily stand there ground against cichlids. Additionally synodontis multipunctatus is a parasitic fish that will host with african cichlids. They are incredibly entertaining. They eat primarily detritus on the bottom. ditto on the syno...i've kept big eupterus with cichlids with no issues...very robust...also kept 4line pims with new world cichlids. They are very active and fairly aggressive too

I use nerite snails, if they are eaten it is generally very slowly due to their thick shell, they don't reproduce out of control loke many snails, and they never stop cleaning, if you have enough, about a dozen should last you several months in a 180
