I'm vegan. Used to be pescatarian--a person who eats only vegetables, dairy, and seafood.

If you're interested, check out Forks Over Knives. All about the health effects of eating animal proteins.

The China Study by T. Colin Campbell is another good read. A lot of people read the book and decide to become vegan.

Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman is also interesting. He came from several generations of cattle ranchers--he is now a vegan, and was president of a vegetarian union. He goes into the dirty secrets of cattle ranching and really hits heavily on prion disease. In 1996 he was on Oprah and they both were sued by cattle ranchers for "food slander". Lyman and Oprah won six years later.

I would like to clarify what it means to be a vegetarian. first off, lets look at the word vegetarian. vegetarian is formed from the word vegetable and the suffix -arian meaning a person who. the common misconception is that being a vegetarian means you can eat fish. being a vegetarian means you ONLY eat vegetables, fruits, organic plant matter, and animal by-products. being a vegetarian means having no meat in your diet. many claim to be vegetarians but actually consume fish, or chicken along with their milk and veggies. this is fraud! this is called being omnivorous. in addition to being vegetarian there is also vegan. being vegan means eating no meats, or animal by-products. this includes milk, eggs, and bacon. For more information PLEASE visit this link and watch the video, if you watch it i GUARANTEE it will make you view the world differently. this video is very informative and it gives real life comparisons and the astounding discovery's of being vegan. this video shook the very foundation of the meat industry and i hope it will change yours :). enjoy

I see you are from the Bay Area. Have you ever eaten at Cafe Gratitude? They have several gourmet rawfood vegan resturants. The food is fantastic. They have taken raw food to a stellar level. Their creativeness is genius. It's very hard to believe that everything is raw. They have at least two cookbooks. The desserts are extremely labor intensive. I made their Heavenly Mudslide Pie for people to sample at a vegetarian cooking class. Literally had to start a couple of days before the class...soaking almonds to make almond milk, etc.

The crust tastes like a chocolate graham cracker type crust, but consists of processed almonds, coconut flakes, cacao powder, ground dates and vanilla liquid make from vanilla beans. Lots and lots of work involved to be on a raw food diet....we're not talking lettuce...

Also, it's really easy to spot a vegan. After about a year, they wobble a lot, have no energy, and their muscles are wasting away. They also turn the heat up all the time because they are so malnourished ad cold.

You are joking, aren't you? I'll be 64 in January. Last Friday I waked surfed a couple of miles behind the boat in two runs. Finally quit because I had gone so long, and it was the courteous thing to do. Had to make sure my guests had as much water time as they wanted. Shucks, there wasn't enough time for me to wakeboard--my nonvegan guests were worn out and sunburned, so we had to quit. :(

I've tried some vegan food in the past when i was still studying and never could stand the tastes of them...

Also, living in a place like Hong Kong, the minute anything is labeled as healthy / organic / free range etc, its at least double the price if not more...

So in all honesty, i'll keep eating my meat, and un-healthy foods, coz i just don't have the time or the money to live a so called "healthy" lifestyle, when the city i live in is un-healthy as hell...

there is no good reason to become a vegetarian. other then you are poor.
