What kind of a turn over rate do you like?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like a 10-15x turn over rate for all my tanks. But I too have a 55g with a extremely high turn over. Mine is around 35x.

I am pretty picky about seeing debris on the floor of the tanks. So 10-15x keeps 99% of the debris from settling. And it actually goes into the filter instead of building up on the substrate.

personal preference for me is 10-15x any tank size.

i have about a 3-4x turnover now, which i dont like.
when i get my new set up the sump pumps will be turning about 2000gph so about 15x and i think that should be good for me. it should improve my mechanical filtration immensely.

Wow thats some turn over guys!

I sure wish I had found MFK before I set up my 240. I have 1050 GPH for a little over 4X turnover. This is how it was set up when I got it and had been running for 30 years continuous at my next door neighbors. I am finishing an algae scrubber that will add 500 GPH for 6.5X turnover. This is a whole lot less than most MFK recommendations. What is the major downside ? As I plan for version 2 this spring, what is the minimum/maximum turnover you all would recommend?

It depends on the stock and the fish, and what you are feeding them. I have medium size fish that eat clean food and the 18.18turnover works great, my tank looks great even the day before i clean it! It makes it easier to clean as well.

Depends on how stocked you are and your feeding schedule like the above poster said. My turnover is so high because once my fish grow bigger I will be overstocked!:headbang2
