What kind of Channa - please help me decide!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi,
as Tropheus says C.Asiatica would fit the bill perfectly but they are rarely imported.
I doubt that any supplier would bother to order just 1 for you though so try for 4-6 and start a breeding project if you have the room.
With the impending EU wide import ban on all Channa species you should have no problems selling excess animals if you get a pair from the group.

P.S of all my Channas the Asiatic is the most personable of them all,he loves to swim around and through my hand when I'm maintaining its tank. Its a bit distracting but fun though!

What ever your decision on species give some consideration to breeding them or within a few short years they'll all be gone from ours tanks FOREVER!:(

Thanks! I am thinking of the asia since it is the most agressive - could you please elaborate further on asia?

I know that we are at least a couple of people right now,who is faceing the same "hard) decision on what route to take - and thereby constantyly browsing this thread

Any other inout on the two species would be more that appriciated!

Many thanks

Hi.........
Why has the fish to be aggressive?

For what should this be good?

I do not think that this should be the cause to keep snakeheads.........

So before I will give you any advice, answer a question to me:

Why do you want to keep an agressive snakehead?

Greetings
Pascal

just to add to what pascal has asked ,

to be honest if you are looking for a really aggressive fish , i personally think you will be disappointed with snakeheads in general. some will attack there food aggressively but overall there not that aggressive and you might be better if your looking for something that will try to attack you through the glass etc with something like a hoplias species , an aggressive cichlid , or if its just for pure entertainment value a shoal of Exodons , on the otherhand if you really get into snakeheads you will appreciate them for what they are and truly the aggressiveness will not matter what so ever , in fact it can be a real pain ,for example when your trying to introduce new species or put a group together etc ,

just some food for though , i wouldn't want you going into this thinking you will end up with a really aggressive fish that will attack you through glass etc ,as it will probably end up with you being disappointed

Dont get me wrong - i am not looking to get a channa for pure agressiveness - i was just trying to avoid getting a species that was to dosile - my mistake if I have expressed me wrongfully.

I have seen a Parachanna obscura for sale here in DK - could this be a likely candidate as well?

Thanks
