what kind of pred fish can i put with these??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
black widow tetras can get to be a decent size (for a tetra) in a huuuuge tank. get a whole bunch more of them for sure.
you cannot get any sizeable preds in there with them unless you dont mind replacing them frequently.
you could try a ctenopoma maybe? something predatory that is under 4 inches and cannot eat them whole.
but, they will bully them and your tetras will live a life of terror, and you will still have to replace them, just not as frequently.

Well, I have got two more for the tank. One South American Cic and one African Cic. I think the SA one is a Green Tex and the Afr one is an electric yellow. they seem to be compatible with the tet's and im gonna add a pleco and possibly a tiger oscar, if he's small. Pics soon to come.:nilly:

Yep,both need different water chemistry.Plus the tetras will be a food source for the oscar if you get one.The green terror will be constantly bickering over the tetras, and so will the yellow lab.The oscar also won't stall small forever.Plus they seem compatible NOW,but when they get to seriously defending thier territories,it's not gonna work.Plus I hope you know how large that pleco will get.

So far they are getting along well. Like you said, the african and s. american bicker over food, but the tex has figured out the currents in the tank and hides from the yellow to let the food come to him. Other than that, the tetras are pretty hardy and the only "outcast" so far is the tex. I think when I get the pleco the yellow's attention will shift to him. tex is growing rapidly.:headbang2

I've got an Acei Cichlid, not sure the scientific, with some tetras in my tank (Red Serpae) and he seems to leave them and everyone else in the tank alone.

Only Discus, Angels, and dwarf cichlids would work. Try any other preds/cichlids and you're asking for trouble.

They sure would kick the crap out of it though.

You wouldn't out your kids in a room with Pee-Wee Herman would you?:grinno:

:ROFL::screwy:
a butis butis will not touch those tetras.
neither will a charax and many others.

Well it's been 5 months almost, and my tetra is surviving with 2 Large Pacus and a Tiger Oscar. I had a Xenotodon, but he had a stroke or something and got eaten. So here are some pics of the new tank.

This Tiger Oscar is about 3 inches

This is a 36 Gal Aqueon, I added a double filter and pumphead.

This is Rambo, the baddest survival tetra in the world.

The Pacus are about as big as my hand, and will eat anything in the tank (including rodents) but the Tetra and the Oscar.
