Hi everyone, I am new to this site and i am setting up a malawi tank. I wanted to know what kind of rocks to use. I went to Lowes to look and they had none! I was thinking limestone but i am not positive..Please tell me what kind and where to get it. Pics and examples would also help! thanks

Limestone is wonderful, and it will buffer your pH. Other options are Texas Holey Rocky, Lava rock, or Lace rock. Some people use slate as well.

If you have any landscape supply place around you I would try there.

River rock works well too. Go to a newer home edition where they are still building houses and load up your vehicle for free.

Yep, these will work well, and you can get them at Home Depot.

Lava rock will work great too if you can get it. Here is my old Mbuna tank with lava rock:

Porous rock is great because after time it becomes "live" rock which helps with biological filtration.

Texas holey rock is really popular with africans. Terra Cotta is cheaper and I think it looks really cool. The fish breed well this way too

Personally I would suggest you look for something smooth and good looking. (I First went for the look... the rocks were too sharped and 1 hap killed himself, and ~5 damaged there eyes.) If you are just doing mbuna then lace rock and such is ok, but honestly over time you likely will switch things out. So look for smooth good looking rocks. Lava rock can quickly rip a fish to shreds.
