What kind of Texas need ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't think so, I believe you can tell by the blotch on their side - green texans should look exactly like that, a blotch. Flowerhorn hybrids of texans (red tex) would have a stronger flowerline, and will actually look like a pretty flower. :3 But we'll see, because to be honest yes segrest do mess up a lot, could very well turn out to be a red tex/flowerhorn.

Here's my Green Tex x Red Tex. As you can see, the flowerline is very clearly defined.

And no, it's definitely not a kamfa from petsmart/segrest. How do I know? Because I live in Australia. XD And we haven't been allowed to import (most) central americans for years. :((

Theres 5 of them, the biggest being about 6". Why would a red texas have to have a flowerline? Thats just because the fish you have there is a flowerhorn, not a red texas. Have anyone ever seen pure texans with red in the rays like that?

A red texas doesn't have to have a flowerline, it's just that it's common for them to have a flowerline due to what they're breed with (a flowerhorn). Texas x blood parrots don't usually, but they'll often look very different morphologically (e.g. rounder face + no black blotch/flowerline at all).

The red bits at the tips of the fins seem to occur in some Green Texans, but not in others. Not entirely sure why is that.

This is the problem w/ common names...it leads to confusion.
They are two different sp. Why call them the same name?
I'm going to start calling all parachromis "jags"..might as well since common names are soo important
