Do they feed off the bttom or the top or in the middle area. Mine won't eat anything (bloodworms, flakes, pellets, hbh supersoft, shrimp pellets, tubifex worms).

I am just confused as to what level of the tank the bichir eats at so I can put the food there (you know if the bottom, then sinking pellets, the top, freeze dried foods).

Some eat from the top, some only eat fromthe bottom. What kind of bichir do you have? How long have you had it? I find that they are shy eaters and will not eat when I am watching.

My Poly's have all been bottom feeders, though I suspect it is a combination of their natural inclination, and what practices I've attempted. I've read many acounts of bichirs who will come to the surface for floating pellets, while I've always given them sinkers, beef heart, minnows etc. Perhaps it's similar to nocturnal vs diurnal feeding behaviours, in that enough feeding with the lights on will affect their natural inclination to be nocturnal....

More likely they have just trained me well :D

my senegals feed at the bottom, but sometimes they are too impatient to wait for it to sink, they just come up to the surface and eat :o

(tetra colorbits all the way (even my baby ornate loves it)) ^^

my senegal only at at bottom unless chasing feeders

some will eat from the surface, or learn to do so eventually, especially the greedy ones :D But they're all naturally bottom feeders. i'm referring to non-live food.

My senegal used to fight for floating pellets every once in a while, but now eats only on bottom with my ornate and rope. I think he got tired of fighting the hoards.
