What life lessons have you learned from aquarium keeping?

Ahuh :)

A watch pot never boils so watch your tanks and they wont over fill.

Honestly what I have learned is the same I have learned from all my hobbies, whether its photography, automotive or fish. People who aren't into your hobby will look at you like you have leprosy if you talk about it, people who share the hobby will be instant friends that you can talk to for hours on end upon meeting, if you dive deep enough your hobby will expand to all aspects of your life intertwining with any other hobbies you have. Eg: I went for a drive through the hills to the river today with friends, collected some driftwood for my tanks and the took photos of the sunset and headed home again.

Yesterday I learned the siphon head on the python hose can come off while filling and the hose will fly out of the tank and pour water everywhere. Also learned that fast reaction times are slower than water exiting a hose at a slow pressure.

Be cautious when sticking my hand in the tank to clean the glass !! My fish seem to think my fingers are food !!!!!

oh another one is never walk away from the bucket when syphoning the water for a water change !!! i seem to do that every once in a while and pay for it !

+1 this happened to me on my very first water change on my 55g tank 3 years ago. It ruined the carpet. I admit im more experienced now and i just did it last week again cuz i was so busy! No spillage this time tho... :)
