oh. id personally try and do some kind of enclosure for a caiman lizard. or drain it and get an argentine black and white tegu

I think the snapper would be a good bet but if you are looking for a lizard, maybe a caiman lizard (not the crocodilian but the lizard).

tegu's are pretty cool but they need ALL the water drained? caiman
lizard are cool also how big do they get? are dwarf caimans out of the question totally? lol it seem everyone on here seems to be avoiding them

I dont know about a dwarf caiman, they are really difficult to handle and are very painful... trust me...

As far as a caiman lizard, they get to be 4 feet and mainly eat snails. You can get snails at oriental food markets and also Mazuri snail diet. I don't know a whole lot about their care but I hear they are easy to tame and handle.

i dont think a caiman is a good idea for a 13 yo, mostly because i remember how recklessly impulsive i was at 13. but im only 15 so i guess i dont have to big of a point of view. and im still impulsive.

caiman lizard would be awesome

caiman lizards are about $1,000+. how would you contain it??? anything you put in there would need a TIGHT enclosure.

how about an alligator-snapping turtle, water monitor or australian water dragons (they're closer to your budget)? all but the snapper will need a good portion of land too. BE CAREFUL: all these larger reptiles can be very dangerous.

water monitors can be rescued for cheap or free, check craigslist, petfinder or even your aspca.
