What lone fish for 55g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would have to say oscar. as long as you keep the water quality good and know what your doing it would be fine in a 55. if you don't wanna do that i'd say a flowerhorn. the top out at around 12in but usually get smaller.

have you thought about a bichir? i love mine

I think there are some people underestimating the full size of Oscars and other CA/SA cichlids. I mean, are we talking about housing this fish for life, or for 1 to 2 years?

Dude go with a GT. I had this same question before and it came down to a JD or a GT and i picked JD and im kinda disappointed because my JD is always scared and trying to hide and he won't even come up for pellets.

PS i got some picks of my 55g in my album

Depending on the individual fishkeeper..... sometimes 1 or 2 years is "for life"

BTW I would suggest a vieja breidohri or a paratilapia polleni. There are many more fish out there then just the generic ones at the petsmarts

I have to agree 100% with this person, my jd does the same in a 55. HUGE LET DOWN, DON'T GET A JD

yeah i am actually planning on getting an oscar and a pair of carpintis escondidos for my 120 so thats why i was thinking something else and yeah i dont think i would keep an oscar in anything smaller than a 75, i do like bichirs though i think the only one that would stay small enough is the senegal maybe a senegal and GT could work? i dont know im not even sure if im going to get the tank just wanted some ideas of what i could do with it if i did end up getting it, Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions and yeah iv heard that the dempseys being skittish which was why i was only thinking about EBJD as i think their beauty would make up for this lol but yeah i think if i did get the tank id probably do a GT

GT + Sen imo bad idea. Senegals are awesome fish though. Very very personable and outgoing ime. My 2 are silly hilarious almost anytime of the day to watch. If you wanna lean away from cichlids, but still get personality I would deffinately reccomend them. Though they should be fine to mix with anything thats of "docile nature" but.. cichlids are still cichlids. So you never know. I know I would not mix my 2 Sens w/ my Oscar. he'd beat the snot outta them. EBJD's appear to be mellow enough if you want to mix sens they might work. I have never owned an EBJD though.
