i think of you took out that one piece hanging from the top right corner it would look better, but it looks great either way! you do have a magic touch
TBH, I like both, but for different reasons. The aquascaping without the plants draws attention to the fish and the wonderful driftwood, but I am drawn to the contrast of color of the plants in the "with" pics.
So, it really depends on what you want to make the focus of your tank. I think the discus stand out beautifully on their own.
Both pictures are very nice. For some reason I have something against fake plants, so I voted for w/out fake, but obviously I would vote for plants if they were real.
Your aquascaping is beautiful, so your tank will look great either way. I do like the color that plants add though. I suggest some bulletproof plants, just because I like live more than fake. Java fern can handle increadibly low light levels - to the point that if algea is getting to be too much of a problem, I can just turn the lights off for a couple weeks to knock it back.
I like it with. I usually check up on what fish I have though and what they like. I have dwarf gouramis and they like plants so I put plants in there. I have half real and half fake plants. I'm slowly working up to all real plants if I can pull it off.
