Hey I would have it hooked up too I am loving this little aqua clear machine :)
Thats why were MFK right ?

Awesome filters, I have had aquaclears for the longest time (10+years, gave it away and still works!). Never needed any maintenance. Also if you are going to be using it as just mechanical filtration I would suggest to put one sponge on the bottom, and fill the rest with filter floss. I run two ac50's on one tank, one has a sponge on the bottom and filled with biomax, the other has one sponge and is filled with filter floss. My water is crystal clear.

As for noise, was out the impeller and impeller housing. That usually solved it for me.
Also if using sand make sure NONE of the sand gets in there. A stocking and rubber band over the inlet would solve that problem.

I retrofitted an ac powerhead prefilter on it and shoved in some filter floss around the top where the ac110 tubing goes into it so even that water that bypasses the prefilter gets filtered. :D my sand solution. I also but in some biomedia in the space in the prefilter at an attempt to get some extra bio filtration lol

ofcourse!

Im running one ac110 just for biomedia... i took out that overly huge pad and replaced it with about 1 inch of floss and the rest bio media with a carbon bag lol... the other one is all mechanical except for that carbon pad lol... but that pad is with ammonia remover too. I have the foam block and about 3 inches of floss in it... and the carbon bag on top... it works amazingly!

I know i might get some backlash for what i'm about to say, but for my money the emp400 is the filter to buy it's cheap, quiet, easy to maintain, and there are endless media options you can easily do. I know other filters can do the same but i have never had one burn out on me, and all my tanks look great. Plus i only clean it once a month when i change the media. I don't mean to start a manufactures war here i'm sure AC's r great i've just never used them an have always been happy with my emp400's
