What makes AC110's so great ? How much clearance is neccesary?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
personally i go canister filter that does the whole tank solo and then i use the aqua for the purpose of water polishing and flow rate

in regards to the noise regular cleaning of it will stop that if you clean the impeller area you wont have an issue and if you have a bad impeller you can put a new one in an bang o presto silent filter dont ever run it empty though not a good thing to do to it

one other problem is dont forget to do regular sponge squeeze otherwise you might just get the basket lift empty your tank move they do sometime

for bang for buck i like them as an accent

Seeing as powerheads dont count as filtration, we can bump that down by 37.1x turnover... Than again, unless you protein skimmer (which I hope runs at 100gph, and doesnt contain 100g!) is actually filtering something (mechanically, biologically, or chemically) then we can move the filttration turnover to 62.7x to 23.78x. Though you might have 62.7x turnover in total, most of it is just moving water, filtration is just 23.78x turnover...

I have about 16 2/3 turnover(filtration wise) on my 75 gallon tank (with 90g of water) and I am on the verge of adding quite a bit more (xp4, which would add 450gph or 6 more times turnover)... I am pretty sure that you could never have too much filtration, though it is entirely possible getting carried away with current.

Don't forget the whole debate on gph. Just because the manuf states a certain gph, that is not always the entire truth, they don't account for head or media. The FX5 is said to have 950 or so gph but in the manual that is the pump out put and when its attached to the canister is around 500-600 without media. :)

in saltwater pumps are counted as filtration because they force the water over the live rock which filters it... Thats whey i counted that in my filtration. and my protein skimmer is rated for up to 100g and doesnt contain 100g (duuuuuuhh.....) and runs at 295gph. and if you dont know what a protein skimmer is (wow) it takes out protein molecules in the water so they dont turn to ammonia... theres no media at all in them which make them really easy to clean. that bein said my tank still is at 62.7x turnover.

if you dont want more current but want more filtration just get a sump and hook up all the canisters and hobs on there. just make it really long so they can all fit. :D

This is true I would be interested to see what my actual turnover is. Its like with cars and stated horsepower at the dealership and actual horsepower that hits the rear wheels :)

Thats the purpose of mine and its doing a fine job:)

I use AC 500/110 on all my personal aquariums with no problems.

Some of wich are going on 5yrs. now.

IMO. you can always go "bigger better stronger" on your filteration; sump,canister,wet/dry ect.....

HOF seem to be easier for most people to maint....in a timely manner, unlike the other options.

Bottom line, it's a easy filter to use that works well.

Anyone know roughly the dementions of the inside of the AC100? Like where the filter basket goes? I'm playing with an idea for a DIY invloving two of them and an fx5 :D

Thanks in advance guys
