What makes your fish "smart"?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
most my fish beg.. except the aba... he's the smartest fish... he only begs when i have feeders. everyone else begs no matter what kinda food I have.. he's the only one who begs for specific foods. he'll eat pellets ect.. but he only "begs" for the good stuff. most my eels "dance" for food begging.. and the gar all know what the pellet jar looks like... and like the CK my one female ray will sit underneath where the cold water comes back in during a water change, and is there waiting usually when i start the process.

I was never too impressed with my fish IQwise, until...
my group of cories ganged up on my little deep sea diver bubble ornament, removed the helmet, scavenged the air hose, and used it to make a ACTUAL aqualung.
they were coming out and exploring the house, leaving little trails of water everywhere.

As long as I've had my flowerhorn, he now acts like a dog and I'm not kidding! He loves water changes of course, always swims back n forth from side to side, he lets me pet him, feed him from my hand and will almost come completely outta the water for food if I dangle it over the tank from my fingers.
He is seriously one of the most interactive fish I've ever owned! And I do know that he "KNOWS" me instead of my dad, mom, sister, etc...
When I'm gone my parents always say he acts totally different when I'm not there, as if he literally knows my presence; or there taking care of him for me which really makes me feel good about keeping him as long as I have! :headbang2

- Whenever I get home from wherever I am, he'll start to "show off" when I'm infront of the tank. :)

Well, My triggers try to bite my face off threw the glass and scratch the **** out of the tank when ever they see me without the food jar, If I have the food jar they just sit there begging. My clown trigger actually throws tantrums if I take too long to feed him. He will go dull and erect all his fins.

I have seen videos of triggers playing ball games with there owners. i.e throw the ball in they shoot it out but all mine do so far is bite the crap out the ball. D:

My fish is pretty stupid. Pavlovian psychology says that an reasonably intelligent creature will associate a stimulus with food, once the creature is exposed to the stimulus-food combination enough times.
It took my P.Nattereri over 5 years to realize that I am the bringer of food and good times. For the first 5 years, it would panic and swim away as soon as it saw me and would not eat until I left the room.

My fish do not like me carrying stick like things in my hand. They typically come up front for feeding when I approach, but if I carry a broom or a duster, they panic. Of course they panic with a net but I never used it to catch anything living in that tank.
