Suggestion on Barbs?

Rosys? Black Rubys? Cherry? Clown? Torpedo? Spanner? Tiger? etc?

I like Tiger Barbs but wouldn't they bother my Red Heads?

Keep an eye on the geo, the similiar body shape to the nic may mean that the nic won't leave it alone.

Do you guys have odessa barbs over there? Sharp, non nippy barb.

@Loves Severums

What don't you think so? i appreciate your posts but they are a bit short and don't really answer my questions :S

@Darth Pike

Not heard of them mate :S

The Nic is kicking everythings butt at the moment

Gah it won't stop :( will it settle down eventually? i have been told its a female...its not giving anything a seconds peace...its pinning down my silver dollars...lip locking and beating the hell out of my Green Terror...biting my Red Head Tapajos every time it sees it...attacking my plec, attacking my hand when its in the tank...flippin' everything....i starting to realize why such a beautiful fish was so cheap!

arilius barbs (aka filiment barbs) would go great with Nics. tiger barbs eventually get too large and boisterious and would eat most of the share at feeding time. or even rainbowfish - nice and peaceful and extremely colourful.

I had Rainbows before and spent quite a lot of money o them...and my mrs is not so keen on me buying more after i just sold them lol!

What are Rosy barbs like?

Nics are savage. Pound for pound one of the more capable fish I have owned. They seem to want to fight to the death. When they are in an active tank, they can not be the most aggressive fish in the tank. They will bully, non stop! Nics go good with Dovii, and Red Devils. Give them a nice hiding spot to go into to break their line of sight. That seems to be the only thing that has worked. They like to be at the bottom, so keep that in mind.

^ so i have noticed! this one if terrible....might have to sell it on.

I used to have a male NIC he was a terror. Traded him in for a smaller female nic. Which she is much calmer but still chases others. But I did just get a true parrot cichlid last week and he is the same length but thicker (each about 4"-4.5"), he put the nic in its place in two days. Which calmed her down. Think they just need some one a little more aggresive to put them in thier place. Still waiting for my nic to color up only had her for about 6 months. She is just starting to get more color the past month.
I also have 9 rainbow fish, they are always active and very colorful, little bigger so they do not get pick on at all. Also Congo tetras are big and look good.
