I have a 30 gallon tank and I recently gave my brother my dwarf puffers because I wanted to do something different and he really wanted them. So I have zero fish at this point. I'm trying to come up with ideas of fish but I am drawing a blank. I noticed most oddballs that I liked were way to big for a 30 gallon so I decided to come here for some ideas.

Not much you can put in a 30gal - monster wise that is. Exodons like mentioned above would be cool, but they max out around 6", so you could only have 2+ for life, someone correct me if im wrong. You could try a red wolf fish, some crazy fish (butis butis), or turn it into a real nice planted tank with tons of tetras and guppies.

ctenopoma. very aggressive yet wont get too big. my buddys got one in his 35. awesome to watch it chase his tank mates around. also easy to get pellet trained

Freshwater Lion Fish, and yes they are full fresh water, Had one for a long time who loved his guppies.

If substrate is sand then a Peacock Eel would be cool. But as stated above Exodons would be pretty sick. But if it was my tank I would do a couple African Butterfly Fish and a Peacock Eel.
