What plecos work?

Just like the title says, what plecos work? Tomorrow at petsmart I get 30% off so I can get a 6" gold nugget pleco for $28. I'd like to add it to my 125 with my rays but I wont if it will chew on my rays. I know some plecos do ok with rays, is this one of them? Thanks

Colin (rvrrays) has two gold nuggets in his 180 with some histrix rays. He also has a big common pleco in with his motoros.

It is all really trial and error sometimes it works and somtimes it doesn't. I was able to keep a pleco in with my rays and it didn't touch them but it did start to suck on my catfish so it was out of there.

It is a risk so it is up to you if you want to chance it.

Fair point, I guess most of the time it is trial and error. Maybe I'll give it a try then.

They are carnivorous, but I can't imagine they would try to eat a ray. That's a good deal. I think if you keep it well fed it will be fine.

It wont try and eat the ray itself but they like to suck the slime coat off and can do some major damage.

gold nuggets or plecos in general? Just because I hav heard many pleco/ray stories with the ray ending dead or bloody sores on their disks. I just dont want to run a risk with some of my rays.

I think that the bigger problem would be that the GNP's are solitary, they need a hiding place. If you have that I think you will be OK< although I agree that there are Plecos that will feed off another fishes slime layer if not well fed.

Yep if you decide to go for it just keep a close eye.

As long as you have another tank you still get a good deal on a GN.

Also not sure how big your rays are but make sure that they don't see the pleco as food, cause that would suck as well.

I have two Panaques @ 14cm in with my two Rays, they have been in with them for three months now and they have not touched them. But thats not to say all Panaques will be so kind just keep a close EYE on your rays if you put any plecos in with them.
