I'm thinking about making my garage into a fish room, but the lawnmowers and yard tools are turning me off. Where do you all keep your fish.

I was in the exact same situation half a year ago… So what I did was I built a wall dividing my 2 car garage into two sections using one side as a fishroom and the other as my storage shed / garage.

So now when you open the bay doors (one has an auto opener, the other doesn’t, both are functional) this leads you into a 10’ deep (front to back) x 20’ wide (left to right) work area. This is where I keep my saws, dry storage fish stuff, lawn gear, etc.

Then there is a standard door in the wall I built leading to the other side which is 13’ deep (front to back) and 20’ wide (left to right). This is my fishroom…

I never understood keeping aquariums in a garage, unless its been finished off like just another room in the house.

IMO aquariums are good for just about one thing: zoning out all comfy like in front of it.

I have 1,150 gallons worth of tanks in the fishroom, I don’t have to worry about splashing water on the concrete floor, I don’t have to worry about fighting humidity as the room is properly sealed, I don’t have to heat individual tanks as the room can be kept at a constant temp, no one complains when I don’t put a bucket away, my fiancé rarely comes in the room as the humidity gives her big hair… Dude... if it was ocean front it would be paradise…

But of course I have a couple of bigger display tanks in the house too…

This is a basic overview drawing

Blue rectangles are aquarium tiers (pictured below), the center island is constantly changing (soon to be an 8x2x2 DIY tank with a movable table for workspace) and the big green rectangle is a stand with a Tegu cage and a salt water system.

This is what my tiers look like

how is the garage working out? Do you like it better or worse?

I like the garage. I was out there measuring the other day and I was going to set mine up the exact same way. The only thing that is somewhat stopping me is that I may move in 5 or so years. Once the kids are out of the house.

It didn't cost me that much at all to build the wall, insulate the room and seal the floors/walls. When I move I'll simply tear the wall down and they will be left with a nicely painted/sealed/insulated garage... which will make many a male potential buyer smile...

i thought about this too, but there will be a mark at the ceiling where the old wall use to be. I thought about making a 7 foot wall, just so I wouldn't have to mess up the ceiling.

I have a 12 x 16 screened in porch that I could finish out pretty easy and make a fishroom.

the basement which is where my bedroom is which is where all my tanks are :D

Thats cool. My tanks are getting too spread out. Heck I have to alocate 15 minutes everymorning just to feed all the fish. I go room to room to room. I would love to centralize them more.
