What should I do now?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is about a 160 mile round trip to my nearest petsmart. The money I would have to pay in gas would defeat the purpose, thanks for the suggestion though.

Give Marineland a call.

Tell them about the recall you heard and they will ask you a number on the back of the heater itself.

It'll tell you if it's from the problematic batch.

If it is, I think they send a new one out to you.

I called and didn't get a new one, but it gave me the ease of not thinking my heater was going to blow up and kill all my fish. :)

So it's a win/win. Give them a call. :)

I'm going to do that, I'm just in the process of trying to upgrade that tank with the most expensive filter I've ever gotten so upgrading the heaters isn't really on my list:(.

Just got off the Phone with Marineland. They told me to send the heater to them so They can do whatever it is that they do to it and also they wanted me to get a letter from the person I purchased the fish from stating how much I paid for it and the cost of a replacement fish. Hopefully, Ill have the money I paid for the heater ($25) and the cost of the fish ($150) reimbursed...The downside is they said the process will take 2-3 weeks. Its good that they stand behind their product though and are willing to replace what they've cost me.

Nice, I am glad its working out.

I gotta call petsmart to see if they do the exchange for the stealth heaters.

dude sorry to hear that, The day I hurd about the recall I took that **** back, didnt want to gamble 100's of dollars of fish...Call marine land and let them have it, speak to a manager and inform them that their product cost you hundreds of dollars in damage and shocked you...sorry again dude hope you can get another fish soon

I'll have his replacement next week. I just hope all goes well with them reimbursing me for the first one. Its good that they are taking responsibility. $150 is cheap for a good quality FH from what I've seen. Could you imagine losing a $1000 dollar fish because of a heater?!?!?!? It sucks that I'm in the hole $175 because of a damn heater, but, it could have been worse.

I have two of these in my tank...didn't know about the recall! Glad I was lurking MFK and came across this thread.

Here's printed material if you decide to bring it into petsmart:

Dear Valued PetSmart Pet Parent,

Marineland has issued a voluntary withdrawal of the Stealth PRO Submersible Heater (100, 200 and 250 watt). The product is being withdrawn due to a quality issue.

If you have this product, please stop using it immediately and take the following steps:

1. Unplug the heater from the wall to stop the flow of electricity
2. Let the heater cool for 15 minutes
3. Remove the heater from the tank

Please bring the product to your closest PetSmart for a full refund or exchange. Replace the product with a comparable heater as soon as possible to maintain the temperature of your aquarium. A PetSmart store associate can help you select the right heater for your aquatic environment.

If you have questions about this withdrawal, please call Marineland Customer Service at 800-526-0650 or 800-432-6986.

At PetSmart, we are concerned pet parents, too. We will continue to do everything we can to help you and your pet during this time.

Sincerely,
