What Should I Do

He means to watch what your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are doing. Retesting in a week if your fish have been in there for a month is good. The sponge filter will help a lot once it's had a few weeks to get colonized by bacteria. How often are you doing water changes? The filter cartridges only need to be changed once a month.

Exactly. That tank is going to go througha cycle period as the benificial bacteria colonize the tank. You should keep a close eye on the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates during this period. Frequent water changes will help you through this process. The huge bioload you have with all those fish in there will cause the cycle to be big.

i do a water change every 2 weeks i change my power filter about once a month and i was told just to squeeze out the sponge filter every once and a while. but since i put the sponge filter in i do not see the little white stuff floating around anymore so thats a good thing. my only other question is what size air put to i need to power the 80 gallon sponge filter??????? right know i have that sponge filter and a 18 bubble wond running on it with more are going to the filter

You could get away with running just a single line air pump into it and it should be ok. I prefer to at least use a dual and T the lines together. It gives it that extra umpf!
