I had 3 convicts; 2 male and one female. I kept one male in the 60 and kept a male and female in the 10 gallon. The first male, liked the female and would try to court her, she disaproves. I then replace males, and this time she's interested, but he's not having it. I traded all of them for guppies and plants. To me, its cool watching a tank of 3 guppies turn to 20 guppies (from breeding). I'm going to fill my 60 gallon with the babies I catch, and just let it populate until I find my small predator to control the guppy population.

Yeah, I love guppies, I have nothing against them. But I want to try cichlids, or something bigger, and I hear convicts are too easy to breed. Not my case unfortunately.

10 gallons is a bit small for any cichlid, maybe even dwarf cichlids. You could get a single pair of dwarf cichlids, but not a community type tank. Do you plan to feed your 29 gallon with the fry?

What are you gonna do with the fry? Make the ten a sump for your 29....or keep it clear for a hospital tank. Dwarf puffers are dope. You can grow plants for your 29. put the cons in the 29 ten for the sump that would be a Japanese style tank:ROFL:  jjk. Get some black PVC cut it into six inch pieces and let it float in your ten this is what I use after I pull fry and the male gets PISSED!!! It works great keeps them from seeing each other too much. Put like 4 of them in there and you will know when they have made up.

4 cons in the 10?

Kribs breed just about as readily as cons do, and they fit your 10 gallon tank 100x better! get about 4-5 kribs and as soon as a pair forms, take the rest out and keep the pair, you'll have as many kribs as you would cons.

Not to be a downer, but if you only have the 10, the last thing you should be doing is breeding fish. How are the fry to grow-out? What are they going to be housed in once the parents get tired of them? What about a quarantine tank? Even if you use fry as feeders, they need to grow abit before they're even more than a toothpick for most fish.

That's true. I could probably sell baby cons to the store. But breeding guppies would be fine ofcourse.

another 10 would cost 9.99.....why the heck not. Your parents need to deal with it. Just go buy it set it up and tell them to deal with it.....
