What should i put in with my oscar...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just got 3 electric blue dempseys. I have been told you cant breed blue on blue, you have to breed a blue with a regular, they take their off spring and mate them with a blue again for the eggs to fertalize. If this is true, why wont they fertalize?

Anyone silly enough to belive oscar's are'nt at all aggressive never had a male oscar. if your ''O'' is male keep him separted he will most likley dine on what ever you place in the tank even pleco's. granted not all are the same but if he is a male you will be gambling with tank mate's even female's mite need dividing from the male... and get a bigger tank right away .. mine is 10'' long and almst 2'' thick , he is housed for now in a 55 gal with twin fluval's(here we go!) 404's and an aqua clear model 615 plus a separte powerhead and even have a aqua clear 600 just loaded with ceramic fluval ammonia remover and a small amount of biomax for good messure ... 33 gal with a single filter no matter the frequent water changes is a death sentence ... :grinyes: good luck...

uarus are great. very placid sseverums are good too although they grow at a slower rate. most geophagus seem to do well too. of course another oscar and im experimanting with dither fish at the moment and although they are africans they seem to do really well. ive had success with tin foils, mozambique tilapia and believe it or not yellow labs are brilliant especially for eating all that the oscar drops around the tank. and too fast to get nipped
uraus need to be in schools of atleast 4 to lead a happy life.
you could have a couple of Bp's or a green terror. good luck :grinyes:

i have 4 oscars and two jack dempseys in my 125. i do large volume water changes every 5 days or so . one of my reds is really aggresive hes killed fish he cant even fit into his mouth, so i do agree that oscars can be aggresive, jacks are great tank mates the oscars stay on top and the dempseys stay on the bottom. i have to sink shrimp to the bottom or the always starving oscars will eat every bite. great personality still love em all!!!!! lfs owner told me that the jacks are a little tougher. i havent seen it though i think since they are outnumbersd they keep their distance.

see if u can reserve the electric cat and put it in ur empty 33gal when u upgrade. i'd take the advice given in this thread.
