what size do Dats stop hiding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
some tigers will always be unstable no matter u do. but that doesn't mean get rid of them. One of my largest IT's is 10 inch, goes in and out of stabiliyl, but is stoill one of my favourite, as it is very active, eats all types of food, and has a nice high back body shape. (see my avatar) .
But 2 things that really help as others have adviced, are an active dither fish, or an arrowana. and definatley adding more tigers, and feeding only when lights are on, and.... lots of patience. good luck

like others have said, some just take a long time, but they should come around.

you can try floating fancy plants giants to help cut down on the light or get a moonlight for the tank or lights that aren't as bright.

maybe adding a more bold fish with a similar body shape will help, but it could make them even more skittish

if you have hiding places they will use the no matter what size they are

if you remove all the decor they will swim free FACT

I have a 4inch NTT and a 5inch NGT with 18inch Asian aros a 18inch ST 18inch Tigrinus cat

they never hide and are always up at the front glass begging for food :D

disagree Rich-tried that and as I said they just stay behind the filter pipes and remain dark.

kick the temp up to 86

didn't realise they needed such high temp-I've a 300W for 100G. What would you recommend? 2x 200W heaters? The heater is wacked up a fair bit and it reads 80F

i havre always had black backgrounds and had no issues, my little ngt swims around and is only 3'' and my 6'' IT swims about with no problems either.
they feel comfortable and that helps a lot.

straing that, \i found blue background works better, but i \have only had \it, \ntt and \ngt.
also i have quite low temp, around 23 C, and this has helped with stability.
I think u shpould try all the factors: lighting, backgrounds, dither fish, dcor, no-decor, and if none of those work, then its down to the genetics of that tiger, some just arn't ever stable.
to confuse things even more, I 've had unstable tigers for years, and 2 have now turned realy stable and beautiful.
Also, it seems pulchers are the most stable of all the tigers. though NGT's can be equally as srunning IMO. why dont u get one of those Berserker.?
