^ true, especially when they are small.. most people can't resist the cute face of a little puffer... then it grows large and they don't know what to do with it...

i voted based on what i knew/read from other sources, some including documentation published by scientists that have studied this specific type of puffer. trials on smaller tank sizes etc. 1000+ gallons without a doubt

My reasoning for an MBU needing a large tank is the fact i still find a 200G small for a fahaka and would much rather have a tank at least 300G+ for one...

Obviously, the bigger the better but as long as the adult fish can turn around without running into the sides and swim 2X or perhaps 3X its length from one end to the the other, that should be fine. Water quality, diet, and tankmate selection are a lot more critical, IMO, than tank size for one of these guys.

Just to save any arguments breaking out, lets pretend that these tanks are all appropriately filtered and fish are all fed well...

So its all purely down to tank size...

Interesting to see the results so far... keep em coming...

I think footprint plays more of a vital role than just volume too. A 96x36x24 tank would be more suitable than a 96x24x36. Both tanks are 360 gallons but one is 16 sq ft and the other is 24

a 1000g tank that is 4x4x4storys high is suitable based on the tank gallon requirement of every care sheet out there.

with this in mind, replication of a 1000+ gallon tank should suffice.
