I am looking to upgrade my canister from a Marineland C-220 to something a bit stronger, with more room for media.

I went out and bought the C-360 hoping it would be an easy upgrade, but the 360 uses 3/4" tubing and the current 220 uses 5/8", as does my Hydor ETH300 heater.

I need the heater to remain outside of the tank, so I cant get a filter with tubing other then 5/8". Not to mention that the current plumbing is integrated into the foam background of my tank, so that also would make upgrading to a larger size quite a chore.

Since I need to return this C-360 now I was thinking about maybe spending a bit more and going with an eheim Pro 3 2073 or 2075, however I cannot find detailed specs on them and what size tubing the use. All I have seen so far is tubing measuring 12/15mm, but that does not translate into 5/8" according to google calculator, lol.

Anyone happen to have either of those Eheim Pro's and know what the tubing size is on them? I'd really like to not have to go the trial and error route again :D.

Have you try looking on fosterandsmith? They have a chart with all the sizes. I don't know pro 3 sizes but I know pro 2 is the same size as Rena XP.

I looked around at a few sites, but not there yet. I will be sure to take a look.

If I had no other option, I wonder if 1/2" tubing could be coaxed onto the 5/8" inlet on the Hydor ETH if it was heated first.

Just make it easy on yourself and get a connector to connect a short length of 3/4 to your existing 5/8

Will going from 3/4" to 5/8" have much of an affect on the flow rate? I dont see any ready made connectors, I guess I would have to piece them together out of a few plumbing parts.

Looks like the Eheim Pro 3 also uses 3/4", and I cant find the specs on the Pro II on foster and smith.

However, I did stumble accross this. It's cheaper then both the eheim and the ML C series, and it has good reviews. Plus it's got a UV sterilizer built in, and accepts 5/8" tubing so should hook right up to my ETH without issue.

Going to search here on MFK for more info, but if anyone has any opinions on these filters I would appreciate it.

The tubing that came with my Eheim 2078 says 16/22mm. The Germans use metric so just convert it to inches.

I was trying to figure that out, but according to Google it converts to 0.03 in, which I don't think is right, lol.

http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_enUS291US308&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=16/22mm+=+?+in

If you take them separately, then they are

12mm = .47"
22mm = .87'

.47 / .87 = 0.540229885

So, according to US/Metric conversion chart I found, this would be considered around 35/64" which is in between 1/2" and 5/8".

Although, maybe I am totally off on the conversions, lol.

It was 16mm not 12mm. 16mm=.63 thus
.63/.87=.724 inches

hope this helps!

Hmm, so that's more like 3/4" then. Guess it wont work either. I'll have to build a step down adaptor, or maybe try that other canister with the UV built in :D.
