what species is this little guy.?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
red trim = redfin (but the red in most cases is reallly prominent)

the trim in this case looks a lot more white to me and the head/body shape looks like a male true blue to me so that's my guess

Im no expert but to me it looks like either sp. redfin or sp. true blue

Yes, if there's no red then it rules out Sp. Redfin. Chronick is probably right; True Blue or another Stewartii variant.

I'm still leaning toward sp redfin , The lack of red through me off at first as well, but i see red trim in that last pic, and he said it did/does have red but the faded/washed out.

I dont believe you'd see any red at all at any time on a Sp. true blue. The head shape/pattern and black spotting placement/amount all points toward 'sp. redfin' as well to me. It was just the pic's that show no red that made me second guess that.

And of course it's always possible it's a species/locality somewhere in between the 2 lol

Keep us updated, I'm curious to see him in a few weeks time!

This is what I'm thinking.
The spotting is correct for Sp. Redfin. I'd expect heavier spotting on the body of a True Blue. I really don't see the red on it though.

Yes, more photos as it ages should help to clear things up.

OOps sorry ! Habbit to say he lol

And no "channa Sp flameback" and "Channa Sp redfin" are 2 different species.
