What substrate do you guys have with your poly

A few yrs ago when I had my polys for a couple yrs, I had gravel as substrate without a problem. I read some people had said sometimes polys would swallow gravel so I changed to bare bottom. Just wondering what you guys were using.

Also was curious if anyone was running an under gravel filter in addition to sumps/canister filters.

Over the years I have used coarse gravel, fine gravel and sand. IMO no question sand is the way to go

Currently have bare bottom as well. When they get moved to the bigger tank sand for sure. I'm gonna try the red and black mix see how i like it.

How hard is it to maintain sand? Is it messy? I have no experience with it.
