Today i picked up a 4-5inch synodontis which they thought was a Eruptus, which i don't think it is. It looks like a nigriventis. Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think it could be. Cheers!

Here it is: the new one:

Heres a picture of an old Syno that i got a about 6 months ago, they look very similar and it was sold as a nigriventis.

Oh i forgot to mention, i got him for free from a good friend.

Today i visited some fishkeeping friends whos neighbour was shutting down one of there tanks, and had to get rid of a gorgeus syno (which i now have) I also met a member on here, Called. 'Madabouttankbusters'. It was very nice to meet you, and you are a very funny man. Heres some piccys.

Since there's probably over 100 species of Synodontis, and they're all a shade of brown to gray, with numerous spots or squiggles, even the best pic makes it hard to ID them! However your first pic looks like it shows the dorsal fin rays folded back over the adipose fin. If that's the case (very few do this), it's very likely S.eupterus. This syno also has a fairly large eye. As to your older cat, without a better pic, I would not hazard a guess, because at this stage it appears to share alot of generic qualities of all synodontis!

I really cant tell you with the quality of those pics. Can you get better ones (with the fins up)

How big is the new one and how long did your friend have it?
Eupterus will get 8 inch long while the upside down catfish will get about 4

I agree with Hapdude - The dorsal fin looks long which would suggst eupterus.

well.... good luck;)

Yeh id say its S eupterus, can just make out its feathery dorsal, easy way to id them.:)
