Hi so i have been out of the hobby for about 5 years after my old tank sprung a leek i gave up and sold my stock..

I'm just moving to a new house and would like to get a new tank, but space is limited.

I would like the following stocking..

Severum pair...not sure if Rotkeil or Red Spot/gold combo yet
12 Tiger Barbs
Electric Blue Acara

Whats the smallest tank i could get away with for this stocking?

Without the Acara, 75g. With the Acara, its still possible but I'd go higher, maybe 90g or higher just in case it decides to be aggressive.

Beware of nipping from the barbs. Severums tend to grow rather long fins.

i think i can fit a 4ft maximum, although my wife is trying to talk me into a 3ft but deeper tank like 3x2x2.

ok so reconsidering the barbs...

Rotkeil Pair
what dithers? (i want something bright coloured and all of the same type)

anything else that can go in there?

How about 1 x severum and 1 x blue acara and some other cichlid with dithers?

Also didnt people used to keep Oscars in 55g tanks? or has that all changed now? (not that i want oscars, i'm just saying in comparison to the severums)

The general consensus has shifted away from Oscars in 55 gallons. But a pair or community is more ambitious than a single Oscar, because there could be a lot of aggression between them in smaller tanks. For the pair of severums and acara, a 4' 120 would probably be fine imo. Maybe a 90, but would be a gamble if the severums allowed the acara. For dithers I would go with tetras, like Colombian tetras or flame tetras.

I’d say 75-90g at bare minimum too. Bigger is always better, but sounds like a 6’ tank won’t fit or tight on space.

Get a group of Roseline sharks to act as dithers and I would say a 120 4x2 or a smaller dither and a 75 4x18"
