What the heck is this?

my first thought was an american eel but the tail deffinately doesnt say that check the dec for your state the usually have a pretty comprehensive list of species even if it occurs only in a few places looks more like some kind of aquatic snake then an eel thogh cause of the tail

Its not a snake, its a fish; its not native so its not on the DEC lists.
