What the hell petsmart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
people don't complain that the LFS sell these fish, and to me, if petsmart/petco/petsupermarket/petland shouldn't sell them, neither should the LFS where the only difference is that they will sell it for 19.99 instead of 9.99.

Theres no Petsmart in Ireland
im commenting cos i dont wanna Be a STUPID CRAB!!!!!

It would be nice if they would post accurate information. On the other counts it really is up to the buyer to educate themselves. My LFS is full of whismical ideas, the most popular one is that the nitrogen cycle is only for saltwater, and RTC's only get "about a foot or so". I wish there was a Petco/Petsmart in town.
Though now that my tanks are stocked (and I'm going native with my next one I think) I really only buy food and dechlorinator there. If my fish were dying all the time....

The OP`s first post was not all that clear about what he was trying to get accross, but after reading the posts i understand what he is saying, it anoys me also or did

Even when i got a TSNxRT from my LFS i couldnt believe one shop worker said `Oh it will grow to about 2 foot` ........ are you sure is said, as it was so small i didnt know what it was ( was named on a card as a yellow tail cat), `Oh yes, you will need a big tank about 200g`. :nilly::nilly:
I researched more then went back for it, more people should do the same.

I have got used to it that these places, LFS or large outlet are there just to make money and nothing else, but they should make an effort to get better staff in.

I see a lot of these threads and normally grumble to myself as to why it was originally posted, although the OP (and you) normally have a good point. Today instead of grumbling, I pondered for a bit and thought and came to this conclusion: Some people actually have tanks large enough to house a clown knife. I know there are plenty of "MFKers" that shop at petsmart or petco that have large tanks. Sure, a large percentage of the hobbyists do not have the proper requirements to house ck, pacus and other fish, but it does not mean that Petsmart or Petco have any less validation for selling these fish than the "LFS" have.

THIS^

I hope everyone is actually grateful for both the ill informed Petsmart employees (lets see you work for those wages AND take a mini BA in Ichthyology) and the people who go buy 20 fish with their brand new 29 gallon tank in a box. We all would not probably be into this hobby/obsession if it wasn't for them. They are the ones that keep the lights on and bills paid in ALL pet stores for a long time now. Unfortunately this is life. If there were not a bunch of impatient/lazy/flippant/emotional customers out there, then the responsible ones who are left float the much higher bill. I don't agree with the fact that alot of the fish (and many other pets)are being sent home to either a death or a slow decay of life, but all I can do is be well informed myself and take responsibility for my actions. Then if I choose to take it another step and help people, do it in a positive/constructive way that doesn't step on the toes of people or entities that disagree with me. I know that if I go to PM or any other LFS (even if it is a specialized one) that I don't buy anything without research, otherwise shame on me. Thanks for sharing they had the wrong info, unfortunately, most on here already knew that. The ones who didn't will most likely never read this forum.

couldn't agree more.

^^He's right. Without those uninformed customers, the hobby would die. Plus, we all know that the majority of fish purchased wind up dead. Ask yourself how many times a new fish tank owner eventually sells off equipment after he or she becomes bored and the fish die. That's life. We cant be the fish police. Take it in stride and YOU be true to the hobby.
