It's definitely possible.
What happened was a minnow, killifish, or other such seasonal fish laid it's eggs in the driftwood and probably died soon after. Dry season came around and left the driftwood exposed and bone dry. As soon as water was present the eggs hatch. There are a lot of small fish that do this.





even tho they arent natives still cool that they survived outside in the elements in a tub of stagnant water
