Is this a joke? I really dont see how this is possible...

It's definitely possible.

What happened was a minnow, killifish, or other such seasonal fish laid it's eggs in the driftwood and probably died soon after. Dry season came around and left the driftwood exposed and bone dry. As soon as water was present the eggs hatch. There are a lot of small fish that do this.

This happened in Massachusetts, as far as I know there are no annual fishes that hatch from dried eggs in New England.

Hey all got some updates for ya. Ive been very busy just got back from vacation and such so i set up a 10gl today had to go get a new filter motor burned out on my old one and i got the fish out of the tub that they were in. they are huge now well not huge but like 5 times the size they were and i took some pictures of them maybe now someone can ID them. The driftwood was from way up in Maine near Canadian boarder if that helps.

thats what i thought too looked like a giant danio but it doesnt have visible orange lines only when the light hits it a certain way i dunno?? It definately isnt a trick someone is playing on me cause i dont have any other friends who are into the hobby and would know where to get giant danio fry unless somehow when i was doing a water change eggs from my danios which i have never seen breed some how made their way into the tub of water in my backyard?? i guess that is the most likely although i have no clue how??

Have you ever put the water from your danio tank into the container that held your drift wood? your danios could have layed eggs and you never knew since they eat thier eggs and young.

true but i never drain my water into the driftwood tub....... but that is the most logical explanation i dunno its crazy..:nilly: even tho they arent natives still cool that they survived outside in the elements in a tub of stagnant water

Danios breed like crazy, they will breed in any tank its just that the eggs will get eaten. If there was any contact of water from your danio tank or any other thing from the danio tank then tha tis what happened.

Danios are pretty tough, cool temps wouldn't have bothered them nor would the still water. Really cold water would be a problem but unless the water fell to below 55 (maybe lower) danios would have lived on.....
