What Thorichthys species do you own?

What species do you own and where did you get it? How's the temperament? What size tank are they in?

I have a firemouth in a 55g w/ a convict and salvini. He is the "tough" guy of the tank always flairing his gills and nipping. The others are bigger and ignor him. I haven't kept any other kind of thorichthy.

I got a male Maculipinnis in a 240 l tank, no aggro at all, except for the usual defending of his territory.

Isn't a Thorichthys themperment close to a Convict but slightly less? Generally speaking....

Not from what I have read. Depending on which species it is, their aggression has a pretty good range from being entirely mellow and subdominant to being quite aggressive with other similar sized fish.

Not from what I have read. Depending on which species it is, their aggression has a pretty good range from being entirely mellow and subdominant to being quite aggressive with other similar sized fish.

75 gallons not a bad sized tank, I would order more meeki 6-8 in total, get a bunch of swordtails and your done.

Thorichthys do better when there the only cichlids in the tank as they arnt very aggressive. I have some of my thorichthys with other cichlids, mainly Cryptoheros, Although my Mixteco blues are with 2 pairs of panamensis, and iam thinking on moving the panamensis as they are too aggressive and dominate.

I have swordtails with my thorichthys because, they are found native with them, they act as dithers for the thorichthys and also provide live food for them.
