Have a 55 with parents and fry. Has a HOB filter. Was wondering what people use to cover the intake to protect fry?

i have a large sponge that is supposed to be used as some kind of filter media. it works well. some people just wrap pantie hose around the intake..

I use sponges. The type that go inside filters and are sold seperately as seplacements work well.

:iagree: you can just get sponge filters at your local aquarium store and they hook up to you air pump. Or DIY there are plenty instructional posts on this site to assist you.

lol. Does that not reduce the filter intake too much?

mine? i have a 20-30 gal filter on a 10 gal tank lol so im good

Sorry, should've been more clear, that was in reference to panty hose.lol

oh, its not like you put the whole thing over it, just cut a small enough section to rubber band to the intake

But isn't the material so fine - meshed that water can't be sucked at a fast enough rate?
