What to do for Feeder Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you're going to quarantine, you have to have a tank set up specifically for that...

If you're going to have a tank set up, why not breed your own?

Feeder fish aren't more nutritious than pellets/flakes (especially feeder fish raised on pellets/flakes). But I do think it can be good for them to stalk, hunt, chase, etc feeders on occasion. If the feeders are clean...
So raise your own. Guppies, minnows, mollies, etc. There are plenty to choose from that are super easy to breed.

The problem with medications, is that one works for this disease, or pathogen, but not others.
An antibiotic effective against a bacterial disease such as columnaris, doesn´t work for Anchor worm, because Achor worm needs a chiton inhibitor to be eliminated
(it.s a parasitic crustacean)
And both commonly infect cyprinids such as minnows an goldifish (as well as viral and bacterial maladies).
And it may take time for such diseases, or paracite to become visable.

How long is a proper QT period, 2 weeks... 2 months.....6 months
Can you wait, feed, or house each batch of feeder fish even a 2 weeks as a QT period.

For anchor worm, is there patience enough to inspect each minnow and remove the parsite surgically (if visable)

If you don´t, in the confines of a tank, one easily becomes an epidemic, and can wipe out an entire tank of fish.
