yeah, i don't think it's a matter of size or how long you're going to keep them, they are simply not compatible with each other. since you know you can't keep them forever, pick one and get rid of the others. otherwise they're just going to beat on each other and look like crap.

this is true i think it may be nicer to keep 2 nice fish which arent beaten which the tank could be divided and one on each side maybe.

I recommend you sell the butti and the dovii back to your lfs. Most likely the GT is the best fit for your tank out of the 4 cichlids.

:iagree:

IMO the butti is gona continue to grow incredibly fast and continue to limit your tank space by forcing you to use the divider. I've owned them, many of us have owned them, they're big and MEAN. You probably don't want to hear this but I think your decision making leaves a lot to be desired. 3 of the 4 fish you have in that 55 will end up over a foot long, and by the sound of it they're already tearing eachother up

Buying the first three and putting them in there wasn't a good idea IMO, but then you added a DOVII??? WTF?

sell all the fish and buy a turtle

Well between the flowerhorn, green terror, and Dovii the FH reigns supreme and the main reason I got the dovii last night besides the price is because the flowerhorn was picking on the GT too much and it was nearly dead with one of his fins almost completely removed and one of his eyes badly injured.

It seems like everyone is giving you pretty much the same advice. Obviously you don't want to hear it though so here is my second 2 cents for you...if you want to keep these fish, go down to the local aquarium shop, buy a 300+ gallon tank and put all the fish in it. Good luck and happy fishkeeping.

Oh so you're a comedian. I guess your comprehension skills are rather low though because I said several times the Butti will not reach 20" while I own him. I don't care if the fish is mean, obviously I know that because all of the fish I purchased minus the GT are aggressive. I was asking for advice, not some know-it-all to bastardize me. If I intended on keeping all of them and grow old and gray with them then I would buy a damn 200+ gallon tank, but I am not so I am going to bite the bullet and just keep one of them and possibly add dithers.

I should have known the overcrowd police were going to enter this.

Murky...Buddy...listen up...

I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. You got advice from me and others and won't listen to it cause its not what you want to hear. I never stated anything about a butti getting to 20" in fact, all I said was three of your 4 fish will be over a foot long. A foot is a unit of measure that is equivalent to 12 inches in length. And we're not the "Overcrowd Police" here... In this case we're "The Compatibility Police" so better watch out cause I've got a bucket and a syphon and I'm coming for ya and your little fishies too...haha!

Oh and by the way just as a gage for you... I have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Do you comprehend what I'm saying here?

have fun In Japan

We're only giving you the advice that YOU asked for and now you get all huffy and puffy when you hear an answer you don't want. There's a big difference between being merely overcrowded and having imcompatible fish in too small a tank that are getting their fins ripped off and eyes eaten out. Just listen to your decsription again of your tank situation (below) and then think, 'should I have really added a Dovii to the mix in a 55g tank?'.

 am I supposed to be impressed by this? what the hell does mechanical engineering have to do with housing fish? Stroke your ego a little more buddy. Perhaps that is why you spend so much time with fish. You probably talk to your fish and expect them to jump through hoops to eh?

loser.
