On a boat!
I know this has happened to several of you guys and gals out there, but I wanted to get a consensus (would love for any vendors to chime in, as well). I ordered a pair of rays and got 2 males. They are gorgeous and healthy and I may even keep them both, but the point is I ordered 1 male and 1 female. What to do??? He said that he checked and was sure that they were male/female. I've sent pictures for verification to the vendor, but haven't received a response yet. I wanted to get some insight before I called him and demanded a refund or a discounted female or SOMETHING. Fact is, these are about 12" and the claspers are more than noticeable... our communication was great up until I brought this up to him......

Thanks in advance MFK!

This seems to happen remarkably often especially seeing how easy it is to sex rays. IMO it's BS. Why should you pay for a third ray when you ordered two and didn't get what you ordered? The seller should send the other ray you ordered free of charge and make arrangements to have the unwanted ray returned at their expense.
I expect some people will come along claiming it's an honest mistake but seriously how can it be?

It's happened to me from a vendor, actually multiple errors on multiple orders. Best advice is negotiate with him. If he's decent he will make it right. If not move on. There are plenty of good vendors out there. Give your business to the good ones.

yup the seller needs to make u happy with the situation since they made the mistake.

customer is king

Had it happen..... Ray was delivered by car 6+ hours. I wasn't at the house when it happened. I turned it loose and the tank and was just like WTF. I can think of much worse situations to be in, after all I'd much rather find claspers on lady ray then be in a situation with it being a person! Whoa! Zing.

Usually the seller is so emarassed by the mistake they gladly make it right.....

In my case patience was key. The claspers weren't unrolled, I was in no hurry, the ray obviously was in no hurry and the seller was on the same in no hurry boat.... In fact we still haven't settled it yet, but like I said, with 2 patient parties it's not a big deal.

Like Trev said, customer is king and if you're unhappy right now then the seller needs to act.

Guess this is just one more case where it would have been better to shop at the LFSs so you can see what you're getting. ;)

I could have been a unpolite fellow about it and called the guy out, embarassed him, start a thread so everyone could rag on him, but I honestly believe him. He had another of the same species 2" smaller fully unrolled. He assumed this guy was a girl as it passed through an exporter, then vendor, then him. I was the one to notice. The guy I got them from kept them in a pond. I honestly believe it was a simple mistake. The guy is a stand up hobbyist that's probobly more intelegent than I'll ever be. It's real simple, I could have handled the situation 2 ways. Out of respect for that hobbyist a name was never put to the situation, and won't be. Mistakes do happen, they happen everyday. Its up to us to handle them accordingly.

U ordered a pair u paid for a pair u make sure u get that pair.

This does happen a lot surprisingly. Mainly starts with the exporter making the mistake. Most importers are transhippers or put the rays in ponds and only see them from above. You can see claspers from above but you have to study the ray and wait for them to move just right unless they are mature. My hope is the vendor will make it right but if you got the exact ray in the picture he sent then he does have a small argument. Would be a lot worse if you got a completely different ray. My advice to is be patient and see what he is willing to do. Do not jump out and start negotiating too early. They might just get you a free ray and you pay shipping. That would be best scenario. Worst case would be you get a female at their cost but something needs to be done. Well sorry worse case would be no response at all. Good Luck and shoot me a message when you find out.

Thing is, I rarely see castexi sold at this size so even if he wanted to make it right I dunno if he could. Really nice pattern and great condition. These wild caughts ate shrimp within minutes of being out of the boxes. I'm happy with all but one really friggin important thing... he got my other pair right tho :)

Castexi what did u pay and where was the vendor located.
