What to do when a vendor screws up an order....

I know this has happened to several of you guys and gals out there, but I wanted to get a consensus (would love for any vendors to chime in, as well). I ordered a pair of rays and got 2 males. They are gorgeous and healthy and I may even keep them both, but the point is I ordered 1 male and 1 female. What to do??? He said that he checked and was sure that they were male/female. I've sent pictures for verification to the vendor, but haven't received a response yet. I wanted to get some insight before I called him and demanded a refund or a discounted female or SOMETHING. Fact is, these are about 12" and the claspers are more than noticeable... our communication was great up until I brought this up to him......

Thanks in advance MFK!

If you are able to tell it was male... I sure the vendor can also. It was not a mistake.

If you paid by Credit Card or Paypal... file a claim ASAP.

I received an email from the vendor today. Options are to sell the ray locally and buy a discounted female once one arrives, send back to him (I have no experience shipping), or keep and buy a discounted female. Since I have no air cargo account and have never shipped I will not be doing so. IF a female of the similar pattern and size is imported I will definitely jump on her! I'm thinking the chances are quite low for this so I may wait to see what else is imported in the near future and buy something at a discount. I honestly do think this could have been a mistake. That said... This along with a few other things may have made me think twice about ordering from this vendor again, but all of my fish came in healthy which is extremely important (obviously). And, the fact that he wants to make it right tells me something. I will recommend him to friends in the future and will likely order from him again. Thanks for all the comments!

If you're willing to recommend this vendor, then perhaps you wouldn't mind telling us who he is? I'm glad to hear that you're satisfied with the options that you've been given, but I'd like to know which vendors can't reliably sex their rays.

if you are to keep the second male i will atleast ask for a discount on that since it was not exactly what you ordered.

yeah,
i wouldnt be too happy if this happened to me and i am stuck with a ray i didnt want.
Honestly there really is no reason for this to happen.
you didnt pay for a male..why should you have to keep it or pay for it if you never ordered it.
i mean, i am sure you had plans all laid out. going to try to breed them or whatever your plans were and now they are screwed when YOU paid GOOD money.
Not fair. Not fair at all....

I bet the vendor and customer have it all worked out, and it's no longer any of our business.

With all due respect-- and I mean that, as I've learned an enormous amount from your posts-- I have to disagree. Whether or not and how this is being resolved is our business. There's no reason why we shouldn't be open about these kinds of incidents. As I said before, I don't expect anyone to have a perfect record of customer satisfaction. I'm even willing to accept the occasional boneheaded mistake. But I'd like to know if there are certain vendors who make those mistakes and exactly how they make good on them. If I spend a couple of hundred dollars on a fish I want to know that I can trust the person.
