We'll have a common snapping turtle that i've raised since it was the size of a golf ball and know I think i need to get rid of it i love it but i wan't to make more room for more fish tanks and i don't think i can care for one its entire life so i think i have to part with it before i get more attatched

So my question is , is it illegal to return turtles to the wild once in captivity like it is with fish ?

If not would it be better to let it go in the wild where i found it or sell it to someone here who can give it a good home ?

Also its shell is about 4''-5'' long

Thanks

It is illegal to release it.

Plus it may not do well after being captive raised.

I would look to find someone who wants to adopt it. I got my Common Snapper at about 6" shell length and now he's up to 12" and growing!

Well technically it would most likely do fine in the wild if it's native where you live. Reptiles aren't like cats and dogs that depend on us for survival. They have it all programed in their brains how to survive. But be that as it may I would still avoid releasing it based on the fact that you could transfer a disease/illness to the wild population. Do your best to find it a home. I'd love to take it if I had the room.

Okay i use to hand feed it but stoped because i was worried it wouldn't be able to survive in the wild but if its illegal to release them then i won't

I'm not to sure if any thing could be introduce into the wild such as parasites or bacteria and such it was only feed minnows , baby suckers and crayfish plus the odd tadpole all cought from where he was cought but then again why risk it

i'll look for a home for it good thing i didn't release it though only thing that stoped me was that i was worrie it would be killed or eaten by a larger turtle or a bird

Do you have any pics of it? Maybe I might take it...would you ship it if I paid? I am in Louisiana....

I just got a baby one that walked into my warehouse at work...crazy, no water close that I know of.

I would prefer not to but i suppose i could if someone told me how but again i love this guy and i've seen what heppens to packages in the mail  :(

That is true...but there are lots of people that ship live animals all over. If done right i'm sure its fine but I don't know how to properly. I bet someone on here does know.

You have any pics of it?

sure i can post some pics i may keep it but i'll keep you in mind if i need to get rid of it
