Hi,

I have a hagfish and its been a long time since he ate last and i don't know what to feed him.
What should I feed him?

As In the marine type? Wouldn't worry too much as can go months w/o eating. Try small invertebrates and cut pieces of fish. They do feed on worms too but not sure where u could buy that as a food source.

Where'd you get a SW Hagfish bro? Thought they were deep sea fish...

I caught it on the 2014 CatCon on collecting trip in Virginia in pure fresh water and that is what I am keeping it in.

Thanks for the replies, I will try feeding it tonight.

That would be a Lamprey then. They're not the easiest fish to keep. Some feed on microscopic organisms in the substrate while some are parasitic and feed on bodily fluids of live fish that are larger than themselves. Any pics?

Never heard of a FW hagfish. I think the OP is referring to a lamprey. Virginia has a brook lamprey that is a filter-feeder. The state also contains the sea lamprey which travels to FW for spawning. These lampreys do not feed upon entering FW. Their sole aim is to reproduce then, die.

I am positive it is a hagfish. The last thing it ate is a piece of fish and then it stopped eating fish so I didn't know if it needs special food. When i get home i will upload a video of it because i have no photos or videos right now.
