Your 50+ gallon tank sounds big enough just 2x the filtration like get a canister or two of ebay. I had 4 full size in a 50 gallon for many years one died bc of hole in head its some shet they get from eating feeders that are sick. And my other 3 passed away in the last heatwave we had 9 months ago.

A friend gave me one so i have a black tiger oscar right now.

Oscars can be easly trained to jump out of the tank and take food from your hand. Very fun fish they look like they dont have scales thats a big factor of why i have owned them. scales blow and nun of my fish have them

i have two marineland 200 biowheel filters on my tank right now, so its filtering as if it was a 100g tank. but an oscar would surely finish off my swordtails, my new blue gourami, and possibly the smaller angelfish. id toss one in my future koi tank but thatd be cold water. so i think an oscar is a bad idea for my tank atm. maybe ill have one in their since my current tank is my future quarantine tank, he can watch over the sick fish lol. plus ive had very long discussions on another thread on a different forum on people saying itd be a bad idea for my tank size.

no thats pretty normal. id get one for my tank i have now but its not completely covered. they do that alot. you just have to be lucky and catch them quick after they jump and theyll likely live. but most of the time it ends in tragedy. needs to cover ALL holes to keep bichir.

my tank isnt even close to a 50g tank. its base is 18" by 30" and its height is almost 25", so they claimed i wouldnt have free swimming space, i was very glad to find that out right after i bought the tank :irked:

Oh thos marineland filters arent that bad i had a penguin 330 on one tank and duel marineland 400 on my main for a bit. Thos ***ers were soo damn loud. I still have one 400 on my 30gallon breeder tank in the living room but sucha ***** sometimes can be really loud if not greased and molested to run smoothly. I dont use thos filters anymore just bc i got sick of taking the bluethings out side for a hose off every week. Ya it sounds like your tank went really tropical non aggressive. Your tank will outlive your fish.. No tank busters damn... Ever thought about a co2 injecter and plants for your nonaggressive tank? Ive been dreaming of a nice planted tank for a while but endedup just going saltwater with my newest tanks.

my tank is way underlit for its height. but i got tall fake plants :) lol. nah but i love the filter changes on them, i just do the other filter every two weeks, so im not cleaning that often. one of my filters biowheel runs slow while the other is running a marathon for some reason.......

they control water parameters very well. mine are almost perfect every time. but im trying to transition into the canister filters when i get the funds.
