what to feed knifefish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Knives dont do well together and think they interfer with eachothers signals when finding food. And I think that is the cause why they kill eachother.

it was the one with the extra slime coating. it was upside down and it had like a white mouth, but a tetra picked at him and he moved but then laid back down on its side, so it was dying, so i put him in a bag to take back to petsmart for a refund. i talked to the associates at petsmart and they feed them tropical flakes and bloodworms. so i dont really understand why they arent eating the bloodworms and cant seem to find their food. not sure if the electrical signal thingy is the problem or not. i was still considering trading in my black skirt tetras for store credit, because they cause the knifefish stress. so my knifefish is frozen atm in the top part of my freezer, but it was dying because when i grabbed it it didnt even put up a struggle. but i still havent seen them eating yet, which its been close to 4 days since ive had them now, and with no eating its worrying me.

p.s. they wont even go after tropical flakes even when they float right in front of their noses.

and to you pyramid, ive seen no aggression towards the two big ones. they usually hang in the same are together when the lights are out.

Sometimes they get along, but most time they dont. It could be the stress from the tetras that is causing them not to eat. What you can do is, try feeding them with the lights off, do this for a little while until they eat and get stable. Then you can feed them however you want. I would keep trying the bloodworms. Also, if you wanna try something out, you can try putting a few guppies or ghost shrimp and they may go for them. The guppies more likely, but will probably get them in the middle of the night when its dark.

i really think that it is mostly being caused by the tetras picking at them, i can see chunks out of one of their fins. they hide from them all the time. and i cherish my knifefish more than my tetras so i think that i am kicking them to the curb for store credit. think im trading them in for more angelfish, who keep to themselves in regards to tankmates.

they suggested using a vacation feeder block so that the exising knifefish do not get malnourished since they dont eat. im gonna pick one up tonight.

yeah i plan on removing them tomorrow. but until then i need a backup. ill remove the block once things are settled in.

That sucks :( It was probably just a bad one. how are the other two doing?
