what to feed knifefish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's weird...I find Asian species go crazy for frozen, South American goes crazy for freeze-dried, and Africans go crazy for flake.

one of them did eat a tropical flake this morning, but he wasnt very fast about it..... so should i just wait until they are out then drop in a frozen piece of bloodworm? and if that doesnt work go with the freeze dried tubifex?

The frozen bw should work fine. Most fish go ga-ga over them. But you can drop flakes in first and wait a few seconds then drop the frozen in. Try that.

i kinda like the idea of sticking food to the glass near where they like to sit. sounds like a surefire way of getting it to them. but well see how this goes. if it doesnt work im goin freeze dried.

IMO...

don't feed when the lights are out if you ever want to see them.

frozen blood worms will float (at least all the cubes I have gotten)

I always just thaw them in a cup with water, and pour it into the tank. The pouring action forces the worms off the top and 1/2 way down the tank. The knifefish will learn to come to the food faster.

If the tetras eat it all, just feed more at the same time so they can't possibly get it all.

My knifes spring to life instantly as soon as they hear the "plop" of the blood worm cube hit the surface.... they run around the tank in circles looking for food and it just starts raining down on them lol

one of them stays out all the time, but two always are hidden, but they come out when the lights go out. i will see how it goes tonight.
