WHAT to STOCK!? =o

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Eels sound cool maybe there is a cool African oe I could put in with the butterflys? I think I want to do at least three butterflys for sure this restricts my aquascaping and stocking to the butterflys region. SO any further help with what to do from there would be much appreciated. I need to know temperments of these animals too.

Noo! Pacu are far too big! lol

The smallest pacu is the sheep pacu. These fish are very rare and need a tank larger than a 30g..I think lol

There is an eel from africa that might lie in a 30....Its sci name is mastacembelus ellipsifer. They grow to 45cm so they might not be happy in a 30...=/

The only eel that I know that would be happy is the pecock eel...It grows to 6'' in the home aquaria BUT its from asia..

No point in just sticking to african fish, its an entire continent so many of the african fish seen in the hobby come from entirely different places, the butterflys are from west and central africa so you would want other fish living in the same river systems. If you want to do a TRUE biotype then go for it and research the distribution of the fish you want but theres no real point in sticking with african fish all from different regions. I would add 2 spiny eels (zebras) and possibly a small group of congo tetra (5 maybe).

OK so spiny eels and congo tets are from the same region as the Butts?

no spiny eels are from asia with some rarer species in africa, butterfly's and congo tetras can both be found in the congo basin so could be considered truly biotypical.

Yeah it's just the thing I have, I feel all aquariums should be biotypes I really don't know why..it's a science thing I guess..
yes but sticking to african fish does not make it a biotype, for example if you added shell dwelling lamprologus too the mix which are also from africa the tank would not be a biotype as the ranges of pantodon and lamprologus do not meet.
