you could put in a pair of mota and a pair friedrichshalli or loisellei or jackdempsey
tip put in lots of wood and plants that keeps fighting levels lower

I'm moving here soon and I'll be getting a tank for a dovii, but I don't want just him so is there any other tank mates like a pleco i could put in there? Or some other cichlid that wont die with him.

You may try a red devil or jardini arowana. These are fish that can defend themselves against a dovii.

hmmm another thing to keep in mind is yu may have luck with yur dovii with tankmates for a while...wait till it gets larger and it'll most likely turn on them and be aggressive towards the others...most likely killing everything else in the tank till its just him. But as for some fishes yu may want to try...are anything robust and aggressive and that can take care of itself from a aggressive counterpart

Would I have the same trouble of aggression with a mota as i would with a dovii? Because I am going too put a oscar in the tank no matter what. They are my favorites. Love the personality, and some kind of pleco.

In that case, this thread should have been titled, "What to put with an Oscar".

problem with adding jardini would be that the jardini might be super aggressive and make the decision for you as well.

well in this case...you would have better luck with a motaguense together with your oscars...doviis are much more powerful cichlids than oscars as for motas...they can be brutes aswell but they aren't as bad as the doviis...I would go with the mota with the oscars...that would be your only option...A dovii is and always will be a hit and miss attemp when it comes to adding fishes in with it in the same tank. It may work out if you have a very large tank/pond to put them in....a dovii can take a very large amount of territory just to its own so you may need something over 240-300 gallon...you can work it out if its over that size. But its still fish to fish that you'll end up with a deadly dovii thats overly aggressive. You have more chance in getting one like that.

Jardini's are also very aggressive...one of most aggressive arowana in the family class. It goes the same with the hit and miss thought with the dovii...just try it out and see if it works out and see if luck is on your side on this one where you have docile aggressors
