what type is this Frontosa ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will try and get a pix later of the other side and then we can compare..that would be something since i paid more for this little itty bitty then the other itty bitty haha.. Now if you can all help me again with this one.. I broke down and bought this larger 4.5 inch Frontosa that outgrew someones tank.. I am sure they got very little for it bringing it to the fish store and i paid alot for it so the store was happy.. I think it is femalebut would like some info on what you all think.. and the positive ID on type..thanks

As far as ID'ing goes, you have it easy if it has 7 stripes (7 including the one through its eye), like the new one also has. When they have 6 stripes it gets a lot harder to ID unless you know parentage, location of collection, that kind of thing. Especially with captive breds.

This is the other side of the Itty Bitty Bitty Baby.. I think your right!!

Thank you for all your help and i have learned alot but looking to learn MORE. Would u bring this Little bitty back to the store for a swap.. because if it is mixed it would not be perfect to be a breeder?? And unless i could pin point what it was i would not be able to find the match anyway.. The Dr. Smith and Foster magazine sell Frontosa farm raised 6 stripe type.. what do they mean by that? Oh and by the way does anyone have any idea whether my larger Frontosa is male or female??

Definately a Kigoma.

I've never seen a perfect split on any 6 stripers to make it look like a 7. There has always been some joining or uneveness in the split stripe. But that is just in my experience of course.

I've seen lots and the picture of the fry confirms what I was thinking ...

The second one that you posted for ID is a 7 stripe Kigoma "very nice looking one"

Thanks , now to look out for more females and a male 7 stripe on both sides HAha..
