Was wondering if anyone knows what species of piranha
this is, I was told that it was a yellow belly, but I don't think that
is a valid name, if it is, can't find info about it. They kind of look like
pacus, but have lots of razor teeth, definatly not a pacu. Thanks

I think its Red Belly (Pygocentrus nattereri)
Florescent reddish-orange with a highlight of pink seems to predominate the belly region. These fish before the seed feeding started had bright red bellies. It is this reasoning that causes me to hypothesize that diet does play an important factor on what the belly color will be. Perhaps in the areas where belly color is intermixed it is the diet which influences these colors. Fishes from the Paraguay region (Southern most populations) have bright yellow bellies. It could be those fishes are ingesting some seed or vegetative matter that produces that particular belly color.

Oh man, now that I Googled for pictures..

I think DanDanThePiranhaMan is right.

I dunno, but I've had pacus and red bellies before thats why I'm questioning this one. Their snouts are more pointed than pacus and red bellies, and their bodies are alot more slender to. Their teeth are definatly razor sharp and protrude, Where as pacus that i've had, have teeth that are blunt and not really noticable from the front(I'll post a pic of their teeth to see what you think).

I'll make my guess when I see a better picture of the mouth.

maybe a cross breed, hahaha, if possible, the snout is very pointed, very odd looking...... if im not mistakened tho, it looks like it has the anal fin of a red belly?????no??
