what type of turtle is this?

it is still debated i guess. There are benifits for it being each. The aligator is cooler, but the regulars ultimate care needs are easier to provide for.

Can they cross breed?

You means hybrid? I never heard of one, although hybridizing is usually frown upon...

i think hes asking if it could be a crossbreed.

Idk. when i first say the pic i said alligator, but i have little knowledge in the feild of turtles.

wait 10 years, see how big it gets, then we'll tell you....hah

thats definitely a common chelydra serpentina, the alligator snapper [SIZE=-1]Macroclemys temminckii, has a much more defined shell, larger head and more of a beak, do a google image search and compare pics and you'll see what I mean. 100 % sure it's a common

chelidra serpentina, I would also say, allthoug the shell is mighty ridged for one...

I agree Miguel, this one does have a very defined shell but it could just be the young age. All of mine had well defined, rigid shells until about 8 inches or so.
There's also the Osceola or Florida snapping turtle [SIZE=-1]Chelydra serpentina osceola. Could be one of those guys, they have a more rigid shell than the common. Care and adult size is relatively the same for both the common and florida snapper

:nilly:  :nilly:  :nilly: ok. so prob. not an alligator. eather a common, or something simalar. I keep hearing this is a little odd. For the people that have rased snappers when they were palm sized, did it look like mine? Would u guys say it is unique for a snapper?

for me yes, absolutely..and I have kept ( and still keep ) several commons and alligators.

I still have doubts when looking at that first pic of yours. First one is an alligator. Last one, on the contrary, a Chelidra.....

i agree with shadow vengance looks like a alli from the shell but head shape says common and since commons are named that for a reason im guessing common...
