What was the best purchase for your first tanks..?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine was an aquaclear mini that I bought to replace the Aqua tech 5-15 that came with the "kit"

Aquaclears are simply great well built filters.

My best buy, that must be my old Eheim classic 2211 bought for over 15 years ago and still running..

Oddly enough, my blue powder gourami. The first fish I ever put in my tank. Has lasted for about 9 months.

I got a magnum 350 for $10 w/ a lot of supplies. Its a p.o.s filter but it the supplies it came with were worth $10.
They don't offer much bio but I like them for water polishing.

Oh...Ammonia Alert live meter live. It hangs in the tank & lasts a year. Better than waiting 15 minutes for an ammonia test tube to change color... They have a pH meter too, but its really just to warn you of pH crash in your tank. I would still use another pH test for accurate numbers.

Three Rena XP3 filters. Bought 2 and was given 1. No complaints about them.

Yea this Fluval 403 was part of $25 for the Tank, Stand, Filter gift.. Just no plumbing..intake, spray bar, flexible tubing...

Hopefully the AC70 PHead on the way here with a filter attachment can help in that category... we shall see...

That is a great idea.. Just not sure how long it takes the meter to show the change in water chemistry..

15 minutes!! Does it really take the tube test that long for a tube test!!!

I gotta throw my vote in for 5g bucket. Use 'em all the time. Rinsing rocks or gravel, water changes, aquarium junk trash. I'm even planning on using one to make a filter with.
